This work established the now accepted distinction between hard systems thinking, in which parts of the world are taken to be systems which can be engineered, Systems Thinking and soft systems thinking in which the focus is on making sure the process of inquiry into real-world complexity is itself a system for learning. Complementarity (systems thinking) - In systems theory, any description of a system reflects the point of view of a particular observer. The principle of complementarity states that, for any reasonably complex system, the views of any two observers will be complementary ā€“ it will be impossible to derive all the observations of one of the observers from the other.

Picture thinking - Picture thinking, visual thinking or visual/spatial learning is the phenomenon of thinking through visual processing, where most people would think with linguistic or verbal processing.
